FAQ

FAQ

Can I use fragrance in SPF?

We would not recommend using fragrance alongside sun filters.

Is SPF30 almost as strong as SPF50?

If a person normally gets sunburn in 5 minutes from UVB exposure, a properly applied SPF 30 product would prevent them from burning for 150 minutes, whereas a properly applied SPF 50 product would prevent them from burning for 250 minutes.

Why should we use a standalone SPF?

The ISO 24444:2019 test for determining the SPF value of a product involves applying 2 mg per cm2 of the test product to the skin. In general, consumers tend not to apply the correct amount of product when using make up and moisturisers with SPF protection.

What does Broad Spectrum mean?

Broad spectrum protection means that the product is proven to provide protection to both UVA & UVB radiation. This is indicated on pack in the UK and EU by displaying the UVA logo. To achieve UVA logo status, the product must offer at least one-third of the SPF protection factor in the UVA spectrum: e.g. a product with SPF 30 protection must provide at least SPF 10 protection in the UVA wavelength spectrum.

What’s the difference between Chemical & Mineral/Physical sunscreens?

Chemical sunscreens work by absorbing the energy of UV radiation into the electron orbitals of their molecular structure and emitting a small amount of heat energy .Mineral sunscreens act as physical barriers to prevent UV radiation from hitting the skin.

What’s the difference between UVA & UVB?

UVA (Ultraviolet A) is a long wavelength ultraviolet radiation (320 - 400 nm) and is associated with photoaging of the skin. UVB (Ultraviolet B) is a short wavelength ultraviolet radiation (260 - 320 nm) and is associated with skin burning.

What does SPF mean?

SPF stands for Sun Protection Factor. The number refers to how much protection from sunburn (erythema) you are getting from the sunscreen when exposed to UVB ultraviolet radiation. As an example, if a person normally gets sunburn in 5 minutes from UVB exposure, a sun protection product that stops them from burning for 75 minutes ( 15 times longer) would be classified as SPF 15.

Will I receive a PIF (Product Information File)?

Yes, PIF’s will be provided upon order completion for all products. This will be held by both Pelham and the Responsible Person.

Do I need an RP (Responsible Person)?

Only cosmetic products with a designated Responsible Person (RP) can be placed on the market. The RP is the one that must ensure all the relevant obligations set out in the UK and EU Cosmetics Regulations are met, if cosmetics are sold in the GB market or the EU/NI markets respectively.

The RP may be an individual (a natural person) or a company (a legal person), must be located in GB (for cosmetics sold in the GB market) or within the EU/EEA or NI (for cosmetics sold in the EU and NI markets) and should have access to the Product Information File (PIF). The name and address of the RP is required on the product packaging.

The Responsible Person may be:

  • the manufacturer or a brand owner marketing a cosmetic product under their name or trademark; or
  • the importer who is importing a cosmetic product from outside GB or the EU (depending on which Regulation applies); or
  • a person or a company established within GB or the Community mandated to act as the RP by the manufacturer/brand owner/importer. In this situation, a mandate should exist and there should be acceptance from the designated person in writing.

Will I get a CPSR (Cosmetic Product Safety Report)?

Yes all customers will get their own CPSR with their brand name on for each product they purchase from Pelham Matrix.

Do I need to pay for product testing?

All products have undergone mandatory testing to be market ready. Any additional optional testing can be discussed and fees for this advised.

Will you design my label/carton for me?

All customers will need to upload finalised artwork via Filestage once completed. Pelham Matrix can recommend a designer for their services.

How do I know what information needs to be on my product label/carton?

We provide full support and guidance to help you make sure your packaging contains all of the required information, including mandatory information such as INCI, warnings, directions for use etc.
